Families are First Teachers

Young children learn from every person they encounter, so every family has the opportunity to create a positive learning environment. Parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. Parents can help familiarize children with their environment as well as boost their early vocabulary.

Grandparents are increasingly acting as primary caregivers to young children and have a large role in emotional and cognitive development. According to the American Association of Retired Persons, more than 3 million grandparents in America serve as primary caregivers for their grandchildren.

Older siblings also offer guidance on simple activities or customs to young children. The people who engage young children on a daily basis serve an essential role in building a foundation for children to learn and develop curiosity as they grow older.
