Maria Matus
Child Care Family Services Supervisor
Maria Matus’ family immigrated from Nicaragua in 1979. She was born and raised in San Francisco’s outer Sunset District. As an adolescent, Maria saw the challenges, struggles and obstacles her parents and other people of color experienced, and knew she wanted to pursue a career that would allow her to amplify the voices of underserved communities in San Francisco.
Maria’s passion for empowering disenfranchised communities began in 2003 when she went to work for the Family Resource Center at City College of San Francisco, where she organized resource fairs, fundraisers and family support groups. She also supported families with education, housing, medical needs and child care information and resources. After obtaining her Health Education & Prevention Certificate, she knew she wanted create an even bigger impact, specifically focused on families and early education.
She is honored to have worked for Children’s Council of San Francisco since August 2008, starting as a Family Services Specialist. In February 2023, Maria was promoted to the position of Family Services Supervisor, where she continues to support families and early educators while providing a key leadership role with our Family Service Specialist team.
During her free time, Maria enjoys working out, taking walks and spending time with her family.
