Dominique Benavidez

“I have always had a desire to understand behavior and the multiple processes including environmental, cultural, physiological and mental that underlay and shape the psychology and actions of individuals and groups. This interest resulted in an early choice of psychology as the field that would best prepare me for my life’s work… I have had extensive clinical experience as a result of my working as Clinical Instructor and Lead Forensic Evaluator in the Child Sexual Abuse Crisis Center and the Department of Pediatrics and Child Psychiatry at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. I have also had extensive experience with both children and adults in psycho-educational, psychological, and neurological assessments based on my work at a number of facilities including Vista Del Mar, Reiss-Davis Child Study Center, Switzer Center, the Acquired Brain Injury Program and Harbor- UCLA Medical Center.”

“My professional resume reflects the extensive training and experience I possess in empirically-supported treatments, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Behavioral Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). In addition, I have expertise in several family therapy models, including structural, strategic, solution-focused, family-focused, and behavioral therapy. I use positive psychology and strengths-based approaches to help children, adolescents, adults, and families achieve an optimal level of functioning. Although I am primarily a child and adolescent psychologist, my experience positions me to also work with adults and with the particular issues that can confront undergraduate and graduate students.”
