SUMMARY:Putting Your Mask On First: Trauma-informed Care Module 2
DESCRIPTION:Join us online or in person for this important workshop about self-care. We must make ourselves a priority\, our livelihood depends on it!\n\n\nFri\, Jan 13 – Online\n \n6:30-7:30pm\n \nSat\, Jan 14 – In person\n \n12:30-1pm\, light lunch\n1-2pm\, Training \nSELF-CARE is about YOU. Join us online or in person for this important workshop about self-care. As early educators\, we cannot expect our families\, friends or co-workers to take care of us. We must make ourselves a priority\, our livelihood depends on it! Self-care is the foundation which holds you up each day. It helps you weather the roller coaster ride of life. \nJoin us and receive free gifts! In-person participants will receive copies of the popular children’s books “Mama’s Waves” and “Daddy’s Waves” as well as a set of watercolors. You’ll also be entered to win a raffle for a privacy cube for your child care program. See details below. A subscription to Calm (the #1 mobile app for stress and anxiety) will be given to the first person logged in for the online session. \nMore about attendee gifts: “Mama’s Waves” and “Daddy’s Waves” were written to support children experiencing trauma in their households. \n“You Weren’t with Me” was designed to help parents and children talk about difficult separations and how to reconnect with each other. \nThese giant blocks of color are washable! Our watercolors are particularly good for smaller kids—the paint washes from hands and clothes\, and the big color blocks are easy to work with. \nRaffle Prize: Privacy BoxGive children their very own place to read and relax! Our sturdy wooden cube has an open design that keeps kids in easy view while providing a private\, distraction-free environment where they can rest or read. \nMore information:briley@childrenscouncil.org415.343.4673

SUMMARY:Family Workshop: Tech it Forward with SFPL 20220817
DESCRIPTION:Learn to use a computer on a refurbished device that will be yours to keep. Attend 2 of 3 sessions to get a free refurbished laptop.\n\n\nLearn to use a computer on a refurbished device that will be yours to keep. This series of classes will cover navigating the computer interface\, connecting to wifi\, basics of the internet and email\, creating and saving files\, uploading files\, and using San Francisco Public Library online. \n \nAttendees who attend at least two out of the three class sessions will receive a refurbished laptop to take home. Laptops will be used for practice in each class\, and will be distributed for take home at the second session. Laptops are given as-is. \n \nThere are three classes on Wed\, Aug 17\, 24\, and 31. You must attend at least two out of three classes to receive a refurbished laptop. \n\n\nFAQ \n \nWhat kind of laptop is it and what software does it have? \nFriends of San Francisco Public Library received a wide variety of donated devices that were refurbished with the latest version of Xubuntu (Linux based). The laptops come with Libre Office\, which can be used to create files and export them in all the standard document formats. \n \nDo the laptops come with Internet? \nThe devices can connect to wifi\, but do not come with a network. Users will need to have wifi at home\, or access wifi at San Francisco Public Library (or other locations)\, when they wish to get online with their device. \n \nWhat if users need support on their laptop? \nIf they need assistance using the device\, they are welcome to call the Bridge at Main at (415) 557-4388. Attendees in the class will also receive a handout of other places to call for support. The devices will receive Xubuntu security updates until 2025. Devices are used computers and we cannot guarantee their long term functionality. There is no warranty. \n \nWhat if someone can’t attend all sessions? \nThey should attend two out of three sessions. The attendee can take their laptop home at the end of the second session they attend\, whether it is the second or third class date. Please encourage people to attend all class sessions so they are best prepared to succeed with their device. \n \nWhat if someone already has a computer but wants to take a class? \nBecause the Tech It Forward classes will be focusing in large part on one specific computer interface\, they may not be the best fit for someone who is learning to use another kind of computer. Several other options are available for technology learning\, including classes at San Francisco Public Library (https://on.sfpl.org/techtime) and self-paced online learning through Northstar Digital Literacy. The Bridge at Main is happy to discuss more options: (415) 557 4388. \n \nOther questions? Call Maiysha Dickerson\, Community Outreach & Partnerships Manager\, at 415.276.2904.
