Children’s Council is pleased to announce a new partnershipwith Kaiser Permanente. Following on their generous support of our Growing Healthy Kids health and wellness fair, Kaiser Permanente recently awarded Children’s Council a coveted Community Benefit Grant. With this funding, Children’s Council will work with a select group of child care sites in the Mission District to improve nutrition and physical activity in their programs.

Recent data shows that 71% of low-income preschool-aged children in the Mission are overweight, obese or rapidly gaining weight (compared to 28% citywide). Staff from our Healthy Apple Program will support child care providers and families with education, resources, and goal-setting around nutrition and physical activity.

Kaiser Permanente has long been a community leader in preventative health and Children’s Council is committed to working with child care providers to ensure that they offer nutritious meals and plenty of physical activity to the children in their care. Since the benefits of preventative health begin with teaching children healthy habits, Kaiser Permanente’s support of our Healthy Apple Program promises to bring significant benefits to participating child care providers and families.
