FREE Family Cooking Workshops Begin Soon

Family Enjoying meal,mealtime TogetherWhether you’re a busy working parent trying to prepare nutritious meals on a budget, or you’re looking for a fun activity for you and your child to enjoy together, join us at Children’s Council for our free Cooking Matters workshop series. Soon your whole family will be on the road to a healthier, happier lifestyle.

Held at Children’s Council on six consecutive Wednesdays, August 26 to September 30 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Cooking Matters is a fun, interactive cooking course for parents and school-age children. Spaces are filling fast, so register today! (The program will be offered in Spanish beginning October 14.)

Many parents think cooking with fresh fruits and vegetables is too expensive, and they struggle with convincing their kids to eat nutritious foods. But when children help prepare a meal, they are much more likely to eat it! Cooking Matters offers a unique opportunity for parents to:

At the end of each class participating families will receive a bag of groceries, including fresh produce: all the items they need to try that same recipe at home.

Children’s Council Director of Parent Services Janet Zamudio has participated in the series with her nine-year old daughter and feels the classes create community. She says, “There is nothing better than spending time with your children, learning about healthy foods, and preparing, cooking, and eating a meal together. We loved the families and children we met through Cooking Matters; it’s something my daughter still talks about as having been a very enjoyable experience.”

Now in its second year, Cooking Matters is an innovative partnership between Children’s Council of San Francisco and our neighbors 18 Reasons, a unique kitchen workshop and gallery on 18th Street at Dolores Street in the Mission.
