Children’s Council Pilots Sesame Workshops

As part of a unique partnership between Childcare Aware of America and Sesame Workshop, Children’s Council has been selected as one of Sesame gangonly three organizations in the U.S. to pilot a new curriculum on child resilience. Working with a group of 12 parents and a cohort of 20 child care providers, Children’s Council staff will lead monthly sessions of Little Children, Big Challenges beginning this Friday, March 6.

The program uses Sesame Street’s lovable characters to help children build resilience, understand their emotions, and develop the skills they need to solve problems.

Toolkits for parents include DVDs and books produced by Sesame Workshop. The materials give parents practical tools to support the day-to-day emotional challenges children face, including major transitions such as moving, starting a new child care program, dealing with divorce or incarceration, and more.

For child care providers, the workshops focus on supporting the emotional development of children to help them become confident problem solvers. Children’s Council staff will tailor core components of the program – including Emotional Understanding, Positive Problem Solving Skills, An I Can Do it Attitude, and A Strong Sense of Self – to the specific developmental needs of the children these providers serve.

Sesame Workshops take place monthly from March through June of 2015.
