How can I get help paying for child care?
Children’s Council’s Family Services Department provides child care payments for eligible low-income families who are working, in job training, or in transition from welfare to work through our child care subsidy programs. Other families in special circumstances (e.g., homeless) may also be eligible. For more information and to find out how to apply, click here.

How can I get my name on the Centralized Eligibility List (CEL)?
Click here to find out if you are eligible for CEL and/or to get an application.

Will Children’s Council give me a child care recommendation?
Children’s Council provides parents with referrals to child care programs that best meet their needs and in the neighborhoods they select. We help parents learn what to look for in choosing good child care. We do not specifically recommend any child care programs because programs are not rated, and we believe it is parents whoknow what is best for their children.

I’d like to find an after-school or summer program for my child. Can you help me?
Children’s Council publishes an After-School Resources Guide and a Summer Resources Guide each year. These guides list details about and contact information for many programs, classes, and activities for children in San Francisco. If you would like to receive one, please e-mail Rita Sapunor at rsapunor@childrenscouncil.org.

Who runs Children’s Council?
Linnea Klee, Ph.D. has been Executive Director of Children’s Council of San Francisco since 1993. She reports to our Board of Directors.

Where does Children’s Council get its funding?
Most of our funding comes from government contracts for specific programs. We also look to foundations, corporations, and individuals for financial support. This support can fill the gaps where the government does not give us enough to cover our services. We also seek “unrestricted” funds. “Unrestricted funds” are not designated for a specific program and may be used for our publications, web site, brochures, facility improvements, increased benefits costs, technology, and public events.
